Career Choices

Career ChoicesI have spent the last several days adjusting the inventory in my warehouse. This involves searching for serialized products in our facilities and sitting in front of the computer and changing 5’s to 6’s and changing 7’s to 2’s.

My eyes are bleary and my brain is fried. Have you ever noticed that simple repetitious work is more tiring than work that actually involves thinking?

I would have never have imagined doing work like this when I was a kid. I was always going to be an astronaut. I remember those Gemini Capsules where I could have just sat there and enjoyed the ride.

Did those astronauts ever had to do inventory?Career Choices

When I mentioned this to someone at work he told me that he always wanted to be the third baseman for the Milwaukee Braves. He wanted to be Eddie Mathews.

Eddie was one of the all time greats of baseball. He hit 512 homeruns over a 16 year major league career and was the only person to play for the Boston Braves, the Milwaukee Braves and the Atlanta Braves.

I wonder if Eddie ever had to do inventory.

Oh well! Soon I will be done with it and back down to working 40 hours again.

Here’s a trivia question for you?

Name the person who was on the cover of the first issue of Sports Illustrated back in 1954??

Hint; his name is mentioned in this post.

The Braves’ Baseball Team

The  Atlanta Braves organization is the latest iteration of the oldest continuous professional sports team in North America. And they can thank the Chicago fire for that honor… The Cubs didn’t play for 2 years after the great fire of 1871.

Here is a history of the Braves with its various team names and locations:

Cincinnati Red Stockings (1869–1870)
Boston Red Stockings (1871–1876)
Boston Red Caps (1876–1882)
Boston Beaneaters (1883–1906)
Boston Doves (1907–1910)
Boston Rustlers (1911)
Boston Braves (1912–1935)
Boston Bees (1936–1940)
Boston Braves (1941–1952)
Milwaukee Braves (1953–1965)
Atlanta Braves (1966–present)

And they inspired the team names of the Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox.
