What is a Cassandra?

If you have ever heard someone called a ‘Cassandra’ and wanted to know what the term meant? Then you are on the right What is a Cassandra?page. I was curious myself and researched the question and here is what I found—

–A Cassandra is someone who can accurately see reality or who can accurately guess what will happen in the future but is ignored.

A ‘Cassandra’ is usually frustrated and feels helpless because she or he knows what is happening but is powerless to change things.

The origin of the term is from Greek Mythology where Cassandra; the daughter of the King of Troy, was admired by the God, Apollo. Apollo was so taken by her beauty that he gave her the gift of prophecy; Cassandra could accurately foretell the future.

Apollo then wanted to make love to Cassandra but things just didn’t work out. Cassandra thought that Apollo was hot but not worth bunking up with, so she spurned him.

Apollo was a man of his word, so he allowed Cassandra to keep her gift of prophecy; but he cursed her with the inability to convince anyone that her prophecies were accurate. So Cassandra went through her life in the agony of seeing impending disasters but was unable to convince anyone or do anything about them.

She warned of the Trojan Horse; foretold the fall of Troy, the death of Agamemnon and her own murder; but to no avail.

Well; at least she got to say ‘I told you so!!’ if that’s worth anything.

Maybe if she would have worked across party lines or predicted something happy. The god’s cursed me, the god’s cursed me. It didn’t work for Nixon and it won’t work for her.

Know-it-all’s suck! I would have killed her too.

I bet she got to be kinda whiney after she was always ignored…Apollo probably only cursed her for two years and she did the rest to herself.
